Paul received a report from Timothy about the progress of the church at Thessalonians. Paul then writes to encourage them. Let’s study 1 Thessalonians, see how they did on their report and then evaluate our personal report. This letter begins with a typical introduction of a Greek letter (v. 1) and then the body of the letter starts with Paul giving thanks for the changed lives. (v. 2-5).
1. Introduction to letter - 50 AD (V. 1)
2. The Thessalonian church put action to their faith. (V.2-3) {service}
a. V. 2 Paul was thankful and thus praised the church continually in prayer
b. V. 3 Paul praised the church for their enduring work by expressing it in three ways
3. The Thessalonian church is transformed, regenerated, born again, and changed because of God’s loving grace. Paul then gives us seven ways he knowingly thanks God for His divine ministry at Thess. (V. 4-5)
a. Loved of God
b. Elected of God
c. Gospel came with divine truth
d. Gospel came with power
e. Gospel came with the aid of the holy Spirit
f. Gospel came with assurance
g. Gospel was presented by men of integrity
